JULY, 2005 From the pastor Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we see the turmoil in the world in which we live, let us rejoice in the fact that every day brings us only closer to the coming or our great King. What a sacred haven the Church provides for us as we turn aside from the cares and distractions of life and gather with the Saints of God around the throne of the Lamb. What a blessing indeed, to have such a great God to call upon when we are in need. So, here are some thought on
"THE GOD TO WHOM WE PRAY"
As Christians, we have many reasons to rejoice. One of the greatest is the God to whom we pray. Unlike the gods of the heathen, our God is not capricious, changing his mind from moment to moment. His children are well known, chosen from the foundation of the world, predestinated to be conformed to the image of His dear Son and He boldly declares, "I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed." As the Christian prays, they approach a throne of grace, not a throne of works or merit. Who could get good enough to merit the favors of a perfect and Holy God? All merit is in their Lord and not themselves. They are not expected to bow down to a shrine or a statue, nor are they expected to make a long pilgrimage to gain the accolades of their God. They have had the accolades and love of their God from eternity past as the prophet has foretold: "The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee." This is Grace!! The God of the Christian, the One true God, has dwelt among men and ascended back to glory. He well knows our feeling and troubles when we call upon Him and He can be touched with the feeling of our infirmities for He has been here. His ability is unlimited, He is the mighty God! Wonderful thought! As Paul has said, "Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think". Whatever we have thought that He might do, He is able to do much more than our thoughts. He has created all things by the power of His Word. He parted the Red Sea for His people and gave them water from a stone. Is there anything that He can not do? Let us remember this when we call upon Him. He is as compassionate as He is mighty. He will not give a stone for bread, a serpent for a fish or a scorpion for an egg. This He tells us to encourage us to call upon Him for our every need. He is not far away or absent when we call upon Him. As the psalmist has declared, He is a very present help in time of trouble. He is always present with us, even in our darkest hour. This is the God to whom we pray! By God's grace, our new book, "Family Devotions with Helpful Hints for Parents" is now available. It can be obtained over the internet at Authorhouse.com. Some have discovered that we have changed our home phone number. Our new number is 501-337-9889. My personal cell # is 501-337-6666. What is happening AT HARMONY Harmony Church has rejoiced in receiving Brother Mike Harvey and his daughter, Aubrey, by way of letter into our fellowship. Brother Mike is an excellent song leader and His family, has been a great encouragement to us all. Please welcome Brother Mike, his wife, Barbara, their daughter Aubrey and son Marcus into our fellowship! We just enjoyed our annual picnic and Brother Leon and Sister Patti Burris' home. Though it rained that morning, the clouds rolled away just in time for our outing. It was a great time of fellowship. In regular conference, our church has voted to support the BBH on KBOK in Malvern. Let us all be mindful of the extra expense. We are continuing with our messages from the book of Ephesians. As we approach the last chapter, let us all be prayerful that our studies will bring us only closer to our Lord Jesus Christ, the fount of every blessing. We have been very blessed at our Sunday night services. Our visiting preachers on first Sunday nights have been exceptionally blessed. We enjoyed Elder Dub Hatten the first Sunday night in May, Elder Carl Staten in June and Elder Myron Ford in July. Elder Darrell Chambers is to be with us in August. We have greatly appreciated the visitations from our sister churches on these nights. Our attendance has been off a little during the summer months. I trust it will pick back up when the vacation season is over. Book review We have recently added these interesting items to our library: VHS: on "THE TABERNACLE" which also gives a picture of the furniture init he tabernacle. Some small pamphlets on the Temple, and Noah's Ark. There are very accurate renditions. Also, some maps on the Holy Land in the days of Christ and today. REMBER IN PRAYER Brother Larry Burnett is recovering from heart surgery and a minor stroke; Brother Mike Burnett from a heart procedure. Brother Chad Ledbetter: heart surgery. Sister Louise Beason: hernia repair.
