"And Jesus answering said, Were there not ten cleansed? but where are the nine?" -Luke 17:17 With the coming of the New Year we are thankful for our Lord's kindness to us. We have many things to be thankful for: a country where we can worship God unhindered by a tyrannical government; homes; food; family; freedom; and a church where we can meet with those of like precious faith, sing songs, and learn from God's word. On the first Sunday of this year I was compelled to speak on the subject of not only being thankful, but more specific, the giving of thanks to the Lord for His kindness to us. So, I spoke from Luke 17:17 where our Lord healed ten lepers, and asked the question: "Where are the nine?"

As we approach the New Year, we are
encouraged by the psalmist's words, "Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to
everlasting, thou art God."(Psalm 90:2). At first thought, we mused over some
new year's resolutions that we might encourage ourselves and our readers to
consider. But we remembered many
we have made in the past that were forgotten somewhere about January 2nd
and cast our eyes to One who is more reliable for the year to come, even

As the New Year approaches we are reminded of the Apostle Paul's words to the Philippians: "forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." These words stand as great reminders to all Christians to live for the day, not for the past. Paul was not lingering in the past. His vision was upon the future. Paul was not saying, nor are we, that we should forget good memories and fond times with our family and loved ones. Certainly these are treasures we may all p ...

APRIL, 2005 From the pastor Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the last newsletter we talked about New Year's Resolutions. Mine was to take a special interest in the young people of our church. I have personally met with them three times and felt each meeting to be a special blessing for us all. I gave them the opportunity to write down any questions they might have concerning God and His word. Their subjects varied, from creation to baptism. The most requested subject was, How do I know I am saved and what to do about it? I appreciate the parents suppor ...

JANUARY, 2005 From the pastor The coming of a New Year affords us all the opportunity to approach 2005 with great hope and anticipation. I have asked every member to make at least one New Year's resolution concerning their walk with Jesus Christ. Whether it is to be more faithful to God's house, to sing louder, to pray more consistently or to be faithful to God's word, it is certainly an endeavor worthy of our attention. I have heard it said that sharing our resolutions with family and friends helps us to be faithful to them. I announced to our church that my New Year' ...

JANUARY, 2004 From the pastor Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. As we approach the New Year, let us be thankful for the Lord's blessings this past year and pray for His guidance in the days to come. We have been greatly blessed at Harmony Church. I have been encouraged by the good attendance we have seen over the past few months, as well as the increase in the number of families that are staying for lunch. We read in Acts 2:46 where the first Christians continued, "daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their ...

There is a song in our book which begins with these words, "Thus far the Lord has led me on, thus far his power prolongs my day." As we approach the new year, I find these words to be of great comfort for if our eyes are open, we know it is by the Lord's mercy and grace that we are here today and that we have made it……"thus far". It is good to reflect upon this truth, for if our Lord has been with us in the past, he will not desert us today, tomorrow or in the years to come. When David wrote of the Lord's abiding presence, he said, "Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine h ...

January, 2003 From the pastor Greetings in the name or our Lord Jesus Christ. Another year has come and gone and as we approach 2003, it is a blessing to know that our Lord will be with us in the new year. There is a song in our book which begins with these words, "Thus far the Lord has led me on, thus far his power prolongs my day." As we approach the new year, I find these words to be of great comfort for if our eyes are open, we know it is by the Lord's mercy and grace that we have made it "thus far". It is g ...

January, 2002 From the pastor Greetings in the name or our Lord Jesus Christ. Since the time of our last newsletter we have had some wonderful services at Harmony Church. We have been blessed, not only with faithful attendance by our membership, but also with many visitors over the last few months. We are thankful for the many new faces that God has sent our way and we hope we will minister to their needs by both word and deed. I am thankful for the love that is manifested at our church. Surely, it is a reflection of Christ. I personally encourage each member to ...

JANUARY 2001 From the pastor Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. For quite some time I have wanted to communicate with our church, visitors and friends by way of a pastoral letter. I hope it will serve as an encouragement to you all as well as a catalyst to keep us all of one heart and mind as we serve the Lord. A new year, as well as a new millennium is upon us. It seemed a fitting time to remember past blessings as well as a time to consider some new years resolutions. The first Sunday of this year, I began a series of messages entitled, "New Yea ...

"Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil"- I Thessalonians 5:16-22 One of the great themes of the Bible is starting over. To begin afresh with a heartfelt desire to do better is a most profitable endeavor. It is one of the most wonderful opportunities that God's grace affords the believer. It is by H ...
